Our servers have high speed
connections to the Internet backbone and are protected by uninteruptible power
supplies and regular back ups of data. Server uptime is 99.99%.
Linux
webspace: our servers use the highly reliable Linux operating
system.
Bandwidth: this is a measure of the traffic your website
will support. 1 GB of bandwidth will allow approximately 20,000 pages like this
one to be downloaded by visitors to your website. You probably will not require
additional bandwidth, but if you do we can provide it.
POP3
mailboxes: these are email addresses with the format
yourname@yourdomain.co.uk which allow your customers to send emails to you
using your domain name. We allocate several mailboxes to each website so that,
if you wish, you can use one address for general enquiries, one for sales and
one for each member of your staff.
Mail forwarding: redirects the
emails sent to one of your POP3 mailboxes to another email address of your
choice. For example, you may want all emails sent to sales@yourdomain.co.uk
routed to fred@hotmail.com. All you need to do is to tell us how you want your
mail rerouted, and if your requirements change, we will update how your mail is
rerouted.
Autoresponders: allow a standard response to be
automatically sent to every email sent to one of your email addresses. This is
very useful, for example, if you wish to provide an immediate confirmation of
receipt for emails sent to an email address you use for sales
enquiries.
Mailing lists: allow you to send the same email to
every email address on your mailing list. Very useful if you have an email
newsletter or, for example, you regularly send updated information to your
sales force.
Web mail: lets you view your email messages from a
web browser anywhere in the world.
Graphical web statistics:
provide a detailed overview of who is visiting your website. You can see how
many visitors your site is getting, how long they stayed on your site, where
they came from to get to your site and lots of other very useful
information.
Please note that our hosting
service does not include Internet access. To surf the web and to receive and
send emails you will need to have an account with an Internet Service Provider
(ISP) - you can choose from the many low cost and free ISPs available in the
UK.
Website
Address
Your new website
will require an address (known as a URL) so that your visitors can find it on
the Internet.
Microcom will register a web address for your website and
will ensure that your new website is configured for your new website address.
We will provide you with a .co.uk or a .com website address depending on your
requirements.
